The Food Studies/ Design and Textiles Department provides opportunities for all adolescents in the secondary, irrespective of gender to deal with diet and health in everyday life as well as the use of textiles, style, choice and care of clothing. Our main aim is to develop a unique repertoire of knowledge, practices and dispositions that will help students in meeting the challenges of everyday life in our evolving society. Learners gain an understanding of the nutritional value of basic foods and develop skills to produce a balanced family meal. Moreover students are taught to recognize the importance of caring for self and their family during adolescence. So far our Design and Textiles department is concerned; the aim is to develop learner’s creative and aesthetic awareness, stimulating an enjoyment in the creative use of textiles.

The department is equipped with two specialist rooms, namely the Food Laboratory and the Fashion Laboratory where we conduct both theory and practical classes at all levels. Our team is made up of qualified educators in their respective field with relevant years of working experience and who even work as Examiners for the Cambridge SC/HSC practical examinations. Furthermore, we are actively engaged in the hosting and helping out during events such as Food Day, Bread Day, Prize Giving and Independence Day at school level where students get to participate also. To sum up, the Food and Textiles Studies part aims at enabling our students to think and intervene creatively to become autonomous decision makers.
