We seek to nurture and guide our students in becoming passionate, accomplished and independent readers who can communicate effectively and confidently in speech and writing all while listening with understanding and sensitivity as we bring them into the fascinating and creativity-filled world language and literature have to offer.
A Teaching Fantasy
I teach.
Ideas and words are my business.
I toss them in the air
and watch them float
softly
as autumn leaves
(though with much less color
and grace)
They float around your heads,
drift in piles on your desk tops,
glide along your sleeves
and whisper – dance

Someday

Solar, mica, war and far.
From “desire”: desirable–admirable from “admire”,
Lumber, plumber, bier, but brier,
Topsham, brougham, renown, but known,
Knowledge, done, lone, gone, none, tone,
One, anemone, Balmoral,
Kitchen, lichen, laundry, laurel.
Gertrude, German, wind and wind,

This phonetic labyrinth
Gives moss, gross, brook, brooch, ninth, plinth.
Have you ever yet endeavoured

Billet does not end like ballet;
Bouquet, wallet, mallet, chalet.
Blood and flood are not like food,
Nor is mould like should and would.
Banquet is not nearly parquet,
Which exactly rhymes with khaki.

Ricocheted and crocheting, croquet?
